But you still have to remove the old roll from the spindle and mount the new roll before installing it in the printer. Changing paper labels isn't quite as easy, but it's better than with most other paper-label printers.īecause the label roll is mounted in the top cover, the roll lifts up and out of the way when the top is open, making it much easier to thread the labels when swapping rolls than it is with most label printers. For plastic labels, you simply snap one cartridge out and another in. It's worth mentioning that both types of labels are relatively easy to change, should you want to switch to a different size or color label.

You can then run the automated software installation, and plug in the USB cable. Snap the label cartridge into place and press the button again, and the printer slides back into the Duo. Press a button on front of the printer, and the entire plastic label printer slides out of the Duo, like the tray on a DVD drive. Setup for the plastic-label printer is even easier. Open the top cover, remove the spindle from its holder, mount a roll of labels on it, put the spindle back, and thread the roll through a slot in the printer. Setup for the paper-label printer is typical. At 7.2 by 5.5 by 7.8 inches (HWD) the unit has about the same footprint as most individual label printers, although its height and bulk make it more imposing. In addition, because the two printers are arranged with one on top of the other, you even save desktop space. The Duo is essentially a LabelWriter 400 Turbo mounted on top of (and nicely integrated with) what amounts to one of DYMO's LabelManager printers, which print on plastic.Īs with the Twin Turbo, the advantages to getting two printers in one package include cost savings and having only one USB cable and power cord to deal with. The result is a very different beast.īoth printers are part of DYMO's new generation of label printers, which includes the LabelWriter 400 Turbo, with a claimed speed of 55 labels per minute. In the Duo, you get two different kinds of printers-one for paper labels and one for permanent plastic, nylon, and polyester labels (which we'll refer to collectively as plastic labels in this review). But in the Twin Turbo, both printers are identical, designed for paper labels such as address and file-folder labels. Both offer two label printers in one product. The DYMO LabelWriter Duo ($200 street) is similar to DYMO's DYMO LabelWriter Twin Turbo in concept, but with a twist. For more information, check our DYMO Stamps review.
